Must see! PUNK: Chaos to Couture Exhibit

Oi oi oi! London to New York calling! The Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art has given us a sneak peek of their spring 2013 exhibition PUNK: Chaos to Couture.

The exhibit will feature approximately 100 designs for men and women. We can get an up-close look of original punk garments from the mid-1970s and the connection made with haute couture.

The looks previewed below are inspired from The Clash’s Joe Strummer and The Sex Pistols’ Johnny Rotten, Paul Cook and Sid Vicious and many others in a movement that highly influenced the fashion world. Music will also come to life with immersive multimedia, music videos and audio techniques.

The 1970s punk uprising gave us the music, the attitude, rebellion, anti-establishment and the DIY/hardware movement.

The exhibit will run from May 9 through August 11, 2013, made possible by Moda Operandi co-founded by Lauren Santo Domingo. Lauren’s got connections to the punk and indie music world as her husband Andres Santo Domingo is the co-founder of Kemado Records and Mexican Summer Records.

Ke$ha, Agyness Deyn and Jared Leto are other celebs influenced by punk fashion.
