Earlier this week, the annual British Fashion Awards were held at the London Coliseum, with heavy attendance from fashion’s elite. Celebrities, designers, models, and fashion industry heavyweights gathered to celebrate the successes of the industry over the past year, and to honor those who have made an impact in their field.

The British Fashion Council (BFC) is in charge of organizing the annual event, and for collecting votes from more than 300 individuals in the fashion industry. Council Chairman Natalie Massenet proudly explained, “The roll call of winners announced this evening is a phenomenal display of talent in the fashion industry. The British Fashion Awards give us the chance to commend not only the winners by celebrate all of the individuals that contribute to the incredible achievements that make London the best fashion destination in the world,” at the event on Monday evening.

London-based Christopher Kane received the prestigious Womenswear Designer of the Year Award, which recognizes designers who are instrumental in elevating women’s fashion, according to the BFC. Christopher Kane has garnered recognition for being one of the most innovative brands in the fashion world, and is gaining global acclaim.

The award for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion went to Terry and Tricia Jones, who were honored for their tremendous contribution to the fashion industry. Miuccia Prada took home the award for International Designer of the Year, who also made Time Magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People of the 20th Century. Iconic British brand Burberry was awarded both the Designer Brand of the Year and the Menswear Designer of the Year awards. The latter was awarded to Christopher Bailey specifically, who has propelled the brand’s menswear collections to global fame.

It wasn’t just designers who took home awards, but models too. British model Edie Campbell was honored with the Model of the Year Award for her foray into the industry and how she has subsequently taken it by storm. Long overdue for acknowledgement from the BFC is Kate Moss, who was honored with a Special Recognition Award for her efforts to shape the fashion industry. Moss has been elevated to icon status over her 25 years in the fashion industry, something her peers clearly recognize and wished to honor at the British Fashion Awards.
