It’s easy to fall in love with the high fashion trends seen on the runway; the makeup, styling, and over-the-top garments are nothing short of enchanting. Yet, we all know that the haute couture on display at fashion shows isn’t always accessible, or appropriate, in everyday life. Happily, 2013 was an awesome year for fashion, and even the most outrageous designer fashion shows yielded garments that begged to be worn at any given time.
Here are some of the biggest, most ready-to-wear high fashion trends of the past year:
Grunge. Thank goodness for the grunge revival of 2013. This is one of the easiest trends to blend into your wardrobe, and definitely one of the edgiest. Suddenly in 2013, all the hottest designers were embracing the iconic textures and shapes associated with grunge, and Phillip Lim, Givenchy, Rodarte, and even Saint Laurent inspired us to embrace our inner Courtney Love.
Signature Prints. 2013 was definitely a playful year in fashion, with wacky, loud prints to prove it. From floral, to checked, to really graphic, Burberry, Kenzo, and Louis Vuitton led us boldly into 2013 with lots of experimentation and playfulness. In 2013, fashionistas went all out in head-to-toe print, or kept it simple with printed blouses and solid trousers or skirts.
Black and White. The pairing of color-blocked ebony and ivory was really trendy in 2013, making it easy to exude an edgy sophistication. Alexander Wang’s Spring 2013 collection kicked it all off with sporty silhouettes, and Chanel introduced classic silhouettes made with contrasting materials such as leather and cashmere. Pairing black and white is the simplest way to showcase a bold look, while embracing a “mod” inspiration.
Mid-length Skirts. This unique silhouette is often deemed too challenging to pull off in a casual sort of way. Fashionista’s really embraced the “midi” skirt this year however, making the voluminous, gorgeous Prada, Dior, and Celine Fall 2013 garments way en vogue. Make sure to cinch the waist and pair with heels, and this look will take you well into 2014.
